illawarrarugbylogoThe IDRU Annual President's Dinner recently held at the Builders Club was well attended by Club Presidents, other club representatives and IDRU Life Members. District President, Peter Woods, outlined the immediate future of the IDRU and called on all clubs to attend the next Rugby Committee Meeting, to be held on July 14, to engage in a full frank and open discussion on the way forward.
The president reminded all that the competition structure introduced in 2014 will continue into 2015 and beyond. The Premier Competition comprising First, Second and Colts will continue with traditional third grade teams combining with the smaller clubs to make up the First Division competition. It should be remembered that Third Grade sides will at times be playing separately from the main club and would have to have additional back up support such as Physiotherapist, Manager etc.
A proposal will also be discussed at the upcoming Rugby phone number list Committee meeting, to have the Premier Division reduced to eight teams, with a promotion and relegation system. This would mean that the club that finishes at the bottom of the Premier Division competition would be relegated and the top First Division side promoted if willing and able to meet commitments to do so.
Peter also advised that a proposal has been put forward by the NSW Country Board to have next year’s Country Championships held in May/June rather than March as has been the practice for the past several years. The IDRU Board feels that such a move would cause great conflict for players and clubs, as players especially would be put into a difficult situation as regard to their availability for club football. “We feel that if the decision was made to move the Championships back to May or later, we would have to reconsider our involvement in this tournament” said President Woods. “If the tournament remains in March the IDRU are looking at perhaps tendering to host the tournament in Wollongong in 2015.”
Peter also advised that the 60 Year Yearbook is just about complete and that advertising space is available for all clubs at $500.00 per advertisement. This would assist with costs and give all clubs an opportunity to promote their clubs and sponsors. Please contact Peter to take up this opportunity.
Don’t forget the very important Rugby Committee Meeting on July 14 at the Builders Club. Clubs should ensure that not only the usual club delegates attend but also ‘the movers and shakers’ of your club come along to ensure that the wishes of your club are clearly put forward.
